As a youngster, Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) wanted a fresh start. New home, new name, new life. So now he’s working at a hotel as a valet in San Francisco with his best friend Katy ( Awkwafina ). But even best friends have secrets from each other. So Katy is quite shocked when assassins attack the two on a bus, and Shang-Chi can defend himself with impressive martial arts skills.
His past catches up with Shang-Chi, and he decides to tell Katy everything. Not only is his father Wenwu (Tony Leung Chiu Wai) a powerful and feared man who has been terrorizing the world with ten magical rings for 1000 years, but he is also the leader of the terrorist group Ten Rings. Shang-Chi fears that his father is targeting his sister Xialing (Meng’er Zhang) next and sets out on a journey to find her.
Characters and Plot
In order to establish a connection with the audience, protagonists should appear understandable. Marvel has done this in the past, and Shang-Chi is no exception. He constantly drives his story forward, and as a viewer, it is easy to follow him. It’s exciting to see this “family drama” wrapped up in a superhero package through his eyes.
Katy is the only character not carried over from the comics. Unfortunately, this is somewhat noticeable in that her character explains a great deal. It is normal for characters to be used to convey information to the audience quickly. With Katy, the filmmakers use this method a bit too inflationary. A new role is introduced? Katy is first told the whole life story.
Visualization
The film uses many exciting styles, probably due to the collaboration between director Destin Cretton and cinematographer William Pope. Pope is known for his best work on The Matrix trilogy, which Cretton appears to have been inspired by. The many slow-motion shots show this. Maybe a bit too much of a good thing, but very epic.
Epic is a good keyword. We definitely recommend going to the cinema for full film enjoyment instead of waiting for Disney+ to start. If possible, in 3D. It’s worth the extra cost because you dodge a clenched fist more than once!

A family history is unprecedented in the Marvel universe. Shang-Chi 123Movies combines the superhero genre with many fantasy elements that make the film exciting. Shang-Chi himself is a character who already has a lot of complexity and multifacetedness in a short time. So there is plenty of prospective for future projects.
